Each Maytag cooktop code listed here has a page of its own. The table gives the documented meaning of the code, what that page says about using the cooktop in the meantime, and the point at which it says to book a technician. The code links to the full page.
Pan and control-panel codes#
| Code | Documented meaning, and using the cooktop meanwhile | When its page says to book a visit |
|---|---|---|
| C82 | The pan or pot is not the right size for the zone: a message about the pan, not about the cooktop. | Only if a correctly sized, flat, magnetic pan is refused on one zone while it works on the others. |
| F0 | An object, liquid or soil is pressing on the control panel, and an elbow on the counter edge, a cat on the glass or a bag near the controls counts. Clear and dry the controls. | If F0 stays with the controls clean, dry and clear, returns with nothing near the panel, or the cooktop switches zones on by itself. |
| F1E0 | One or more keys read as permanently pressed; lights may flash and tones may sound. Usable while it still does what you ask of it. | If the code returns after a careful clean and a full power-down. |
| F4 | Centre the pot or pan on the cooking area and keep anything hot off the touch control panel. A condition, not a failure. | If the code stays with a suitable pan centred and the surface cold. |

Heat and time-limit codes#
| Code | Documented meaning, and using the cooktop meanwhile | When its page says to book a visit |
|---|---|---|
| C81 | The cooktop has overheated. A wall oven below, a dishwasher venting steam beside it or a kitchen already hot from cooking leaves it less room to spare. | If C81 appears with the cooktop used alone at moderate settings, the cooling fan is silent, or the cabinet below gets very hot. |
| C83 | The cooktop has overheated. A single C83 after hours at high heat is the protection working and needs only a cool-down. | When C83 has returned more than once at ordinary settings, appears on cold glass, or comes with a silent fan. |
| F2 | Disappears when the surface cooking area has cooled, and the cooktop is usable again: protection, not damage. | If the code returns once the unit is cold, or trips early in a short cycle. |
| F8 | The surface cooking area has been in operation too long. It comes back on its own as the temperature falls. | If it comes back with the unit cold, or trips early in a short cycle. |
Control, sensor, wiring and supply codes#
| Code | Documented meaning, and using the cooktop meanwhile | When its page says to book a visit |
|---|---|---|
| F03 | An internal communication error on the touch control module. | If the code survives a full power-down, or returns every time the function is selected. |
| F13 | Also an internal communication error on the touch control module. If a restart brings it back and a cycle completes, it is usable meanwhile. | As soon as a cold start has failed to restore the link. |
| F1E7 | A possible problem with the cooktop control or its wiring. Keep using it while cycles finish; stop the moment one is interrupted or anything smells hot. | Once a power-down has been tried and the code comes straight back. |
| F12 | A possible problem with a hotplate (cooking surface, burner or element) or its wiring. Use the working zones and leave the dead one alone. | Once one zone is confirmed dead with a suitable pan on it. |
| F37 | A possible problem with a temperature sensor on an induction coil. Usable while it holds temperature; stop if it overshoots or cuts out. | As soon as the code repeats after a power-down. |
| F21 | A problem with power supply frequency. Check the breaker before deciding whether the cooktop is usable at all. | Once the breaker has been reset and the code is still present. |
| FC E4 | A possible problem with the wire harness from the touchpad to the induction module. Keep using it only while it behaves predictably. | As soon as the code has survived one full power-down. |

Signs that change the answer to now#
- A burning smell, scorching near the controls or a breaker that trips as the cooktop starts means switching it off at the breaker and calling the same day.
- Nothing under the glass can be reached until the cooktop is lifted out of its cutout.
- If an oven sits below the cooktop, say so when booking a visit for C81, and how the two are used together.
