JennAir Cooktop Display Flashing: Two Causes
a flashing indicator or display on a JennAir electric or induction cooktop is indicating that one or more keys are permanently pressed — with a second, induction-only explanation that has nothing to do with the keys at all.

Two different faults, one flashing display#
This is the part worth getting right before you touch anything, because the two causes are cleared in opposite ways.
The first is a stuck key. The cooktop reads one or more keys as permanently pressed — something is resting on the touch surface, or something spilled on it is being read as a finger. The second applies only to induction: if the correct type and size of pan is not placed on the chosen cooking area, "U" and the power level chosen will flash in the control display of that cooking area, until a pan is detected or the cooking area is turned off.
So the display tells you which one you have. A flashing power level next to a "U" on one specific cooking area is about the pan. A flashing indicator that is not tied to a particular zone points at the control surface.

Clearing a stuck key#
- Make sure the cooktop controls are OFF.
- Remove any objects left on the control area, and wipe any debris from the control panel surface.
- Clean the cooktop touch control panel thoroughly — a film that is invisible at a glance is still something the panel can read.
- Move utensils off the surface and clean the cooktop.
- If the indicator persists, disconnect power by turning off the circuit breaker or breakers.

Clearing the induction pan warning#
- Check that the saucepan is electromagnetic — induction only works with cookware it can couple to.
- Check that the diameter of the saucepan is large enough for the cooking area you chose.
- Allow the saucepan to cool down in the event that it has become hot when used.
The pan version resolves the moment the right pan is detected, or when you turn the cooking area off. Nothing about it is a fault.
Is it worth fixing?#
Both causes are usually free. A stuck key clears with cleaning; an induction warning clears with the right pan. Neither consumes a part and neither is a failure in the ordinary sense.
The case that justifies a technician is a display that keeps flashing after the surface has been cleaned properly and the breaker has been cycled, with no pan involved. The control panel is the part associated with this code, and a panel reading a key that nobody is pressing is a real fault rather than a cleaning problem.
