LG Oven Heating Element Replacement — Bake, Broil, and ProBake Elements
LG ovens have up to three separate heating elements, each serving a different function. The most commonly replaced is the bake element at the bottom of the cavity, but LG ProBake models add a third element behind the rear wall that is unique to their design.
Three Element Types
Bake element: Located at the bottom of the oven cavity. Provides radiant heat from below for standard baking. This is the element that fails most often — it is exposed to dripping food, grease, and thermal cycling.
Broil element: Located at the top of the oven cavity. Provides intense radiant heat from above for broiling. Fails less often than the bake element because it is protected from food drips.
ProBake rear element (LG-specific): Mounted behind the rear wall panel, working with the convection fan to provide even heat distribution. This element is unique to LG ProBake Convection models and is not present in standard LG ovens.

Symptoms by Element
| Symptom | Element |
|---|---|
| Oven preheats slowly, food undercooks on bottom | Bake element |
| Broil mode does not work | Broil element |
| Convection mode heats unevenly despite fan working | ProBake rear element |
| Visible crack, blister, or burn spot on element | The visibly damaged one |
| Bright arc or spark during heating | Element shorted to ground — turn off immediately |
Visual Inspection
Before testing with a multimeter, look at the elements. A failed bake element often shows visible damage — a burn spot, a blister where the wire expanded and broke, or a crack in the outer sheath. Turn the oven on briefly and watch the element — it should glow evenly across its entire length. Dark spots or sections that do not glow indicate internal breaks.

Replacement Steps (Bake Element)
Disconnect power at the breaker (240V). Remove oven racks. Remove the 2-4 Phillips screws holding the bake element to the floor of the oven cavity. Gently pull the element forward to expose the wire terminals at the rear. Disconnect the two wires from the element terminals (pull straight off or use a nut driver if secured with screws).
Install the new element by connecting the wires to the terminals, pushing the element back into position, and securing with mounting screws. Reassemble and test at 350F — the element should glow evenly within 3-5 minutes.

Replacement Steps (Broil Element)
Same approach but at the top of the cavity. The broil element is typically held by 2 screws on the rear wall. Pull it down slightly to access the wire terminals.

Replacement Steps (ProBake Rear Element)
Remove the rear panel inside the cavity (behind the convection fan). The ProBake element is mounted on the rear bulkhead. Disconnect wires, remove mounting screws, and swap. Reassemble the rear panel before testing.
Frequently Asked Questions
My LG oven bake element has a visible crack but still heats. Should I replace it?
Yes. A cracked element will eventually fail completely, and the crack may short to the element sheath, causing arcing or tripping the breaker. Replace it now while it is a planned repair.
Can I use a non-OEM bake element in my LG oven?
Yes. Aftermarket elements that match the dimensions, wattage, and terminal style work identically. Verify the part number cross-reference before ordering.
What is the ProBake element and does my LG oven have one?
ProBake is LG's convection baking system with a rear-mounted element that works with the convection fan. If your oven has ProBake Convection on the control panel, it has a rear element. Standard LG ovens do not.
