LG Oven Control Board Replacement — Self-Clean Damage and Relay Burnout
LG oven control boards fail more frequently than dishwasher or dryer boards for one specific reason: the self-clean cycle. During self-clean, the oven reaches 900F+ for 2-4 hours. The control board, mounted on the front panel just inches from the oven cavity, endures extreme heat stress that degrades solder joints, warps the PCB, and burns out the relay contacts that switch the bake and broil elements.
Why Self-Clean Kills LG Oven Boards
The self-clean cycle is the single biggest stressor on the control board. The board sits behind the control panel at the top of the oven — heat rises and the area behind the panel can reach 150-180F during self-clean. Over multiple self-clean cycles, solder joints crack from thermal expansion, and the element relay contacts pit from heavy current cycling.
Many LG oven board failures happen within 24 hours of a self-clean cycle. The board worked fine before self-clean and is dead afterward. This pattern is so common that many technicians recommend limiting self-clean use on LG ovens to once or twice per year maximum.

Symptoms of Board Failure
- Display is completely dead after a self-clean cycle
- Oven heats in bake but not broil (or vice versa) — one element relay has burned out
- Temperature is wildly inaccurate — the board is not reading the temperature sensor correctly
- Buttons are unresponsive or register wrong selections — touchscreen digitizer failure on models with touchscreens
- F-series error codes that will not clear after power cycling
Part Numbers and Pricing
Main control board (standard): EBR84354005, $120-$300. Main control board (ProBake/Studio): EBR84354010, $150-$350. Aftermarket board: $60-$160. Professional replacement labor: $120-$230.

Tools Required
- Phillips #2 — for back panel and board mounting screws
- Torx T15 — some LG oven models use Torx on the control panel
- Multimeter — for power verification and temperature sensor testing
- Camera — photograph all wire connections
Replacement Steps
Disconnect power at the breaker (240V for electric, 120V for gas). Pull the oven away from the wall if freestanding. Remove the back panel screws to access the control board area. The board is mounted behind the control panel at the top of the unit.
Photograph all wire connections. Disconnect each harness — LG uses keyed connectors with locking tabs. Remove the board mounting screws. Install the new board, reconnect all harnesses, reassemble.
After reassembly, the oven temperature may need calibration. Most LG ovens allow a +/- 35F offset adjustment through the settings menu. Verify temperature accuracy with an oven thermometer placed in the center rack.

Preventing Board Failure
Limit self-clean cycles to 1-2 per year. Use the 2-hour light clean option instead of the 4-hour heavy clean when possible. Consider manual oven cleaning with baking soda paste for routine maintenance — it is easier on the electronics.
A cooling fan runs during self-clean on some models to reduce heat exposure at the control panel, but it cannot fully protect the board from the extreme ambient temperatures that build up over a 4-hour self-clean cycle.
Board Types on LG Ovens
LG ovens come in three control configurations:
Membrane keypad models: Physical button overlay on the control board. The keypad can fail independently of the board — test buttons before replacing the entire board.
Touchscreen models (LG Studio, SIGNATURE): Capacitive touch display. Touchscreen digitizer failures cause phantom presses or dead zones. The touchscreen module is sometimes separately replaceable.
ProBake Convection models: The board also controls the rear convection element — a feature unique to LG. Make sure the replacement board supports ProBake if your oven has it.

Frequently Asked Questions
My LG oven died after self-clean. Is the control board fried?
Very likely. Self-clean heat stress is the number one cause of LG oven board failure. Check for power at the outlet first (verify both legs of 240V), then inspect the board for visible burn marks or scorched components.
Does LG cover oven control board failure under warranty?
The standard 1-year parts and labor warranty covers the board. LG does not have an extended warranty for oven boards like it does for the Linear Compressor or Direct Drive motor. If the board failed due to a manufacturing defect within the warranty period, it is covered.
Can I calibrate the oven temperature after replacing the board?
Yes. Most LG ovens allow a temperature offset adjustment of +/- 35F through the settings menu. Use an oven thermometer placed on the center rack to verify accuracy. Bake at 350F for 30 minutes and compare the thermometer reading to the set temperature.
