The short answer
Two faults account for most Classic refrigerator calls: cold that does not reach the shelves, and melt water that does not reach the drain. Read the symptom that matches, then go to its page for the ranked causes and the tests. The problems, and how to recognise them

Which of these are owner-fixable
The rule of thumb is simple: if a check needs an instrument rather than an observation, it belongs to a technician. If two owner-side fixes have each worked briefly, stop repeating them: something upstream is driving the fault and it needs finding.

Before a screwdriver touches a cover, unplug the cabinet or switch off its breaker — a charged capacitor does not care that the display is dark. A capacitor keeps a charge after the power is off, so treat the compressor terminals as energised until you have confirmed otherwise. Nothing in the sealed circuit is an owner job: it is pressurised, and the law treats venting it as a violation in its own right.
