The short answer
On a Blaze refrigerator, an outdoor ice maker fails on compartment temperature far more often than on water, because the compartment is fighting the ambient air. Checking the arm, the supply and the compartment temperature is free; the module behind them is a part.
What you actually see
- Cubes fused into one block in the bin — A block in the bin is a melt-and-refreeze cycle, which means the freezer section is warming between runs.
- The ice maker fills but never harvests — Water goes in, the mould stays full, and nothing drops into the bin.
- Small cubes that get smaller over days — Falling supply pressure or a slowly closing valve produces cubes that shrink over time.
Causes, ranked for this refrigerator
- Freezer compartment not cold enough to harvest — Most likely — a harvest cycle waits for the mould to reach temperature, so a freezer section running warm makes no ice at all rather than making it slowly. A clean result here does not just remove one part; it removes everything that depends on it.
- Fill tube frozen shut — Common — it is self-perpetuating: once the tube is closed the machine keeps calling for water it cannot receive. It is worth being sure about this one rather than half-sure, since everything after it assumes a verdict.
- Fill valve failing to open fully — Regular — the valve is an electrical part in a wet place and it fails partly open more often than it fails shut, which produces shrinking cubes over days. This is the entry most often blamed correctly and diagnosed carelessly, so take the extra minute.
What to check, in order
- First — the freezer temperature — Look at whether existing ice in the bin has fused into a block. Fusing means the compartment is warming between compressor runs.
- Second — the fill tube at the back of the compartment — Look at the small tube that delivers water into the mould. A plug of ice in it is visible with a flashlight.
Checks an owner can do safely
- Step 1. Empty and inspect the bin — Take the bin out, tip out any fused block, and check the arm swings through its whole travel with the bin back in place.

- Step 2. Look for ice in the fill tube — Shine a light on the small tube that feeds the mould. Clear any plug of ice with a warm damp cloth, never with a tool.

Before you open anything
Safety
Shut the water off at the valve and pull the plug before you start. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Dry the floor before you kneel on it, and if water has reached the base of the cabinet or the outlet, stop and have the circuit checked.
When this becomes a service call
One condition decides it. If the ice fault turns out to be a freezer section that will not hold temperature, the cooling checks are the right page and the ice maker will recover on its own once they are done.
