The short answer

- Buttons do nothing, or one button does nothing — A single dead button is a membrane failure; a whole dead panel is a supply or board failure.
- Settings reset themselves overnight — A control that forgets is losing power briefly or is losing its stored state.
- The panel responds but the compressor never follows — The control accepts input and the machine does not act on it, which separates the panel from the load side.

- Supply voltage unstable at the outlet — Most likely — a control browns out and resets on a marginal supply, and an extension lead shared with a heater or a fridge in a garage is the usual setting. A clean result here does not just remove one part; it removes everything that depends on it.
- Loose or corroded connector at the board — Common — symptoms that change when the unit is moved are almost always a connection rather than a component. It is worth being sure about this one rather than half-sure, since everything after it assumes a verdict.
- Door switch stuck or misread — Regular — the control uses the door signal for the lamp, the fan and the alarm, so a stuck switch produces symptoms that look unrelated to a door. This is the entry most often blamed correctly and diagnosed carelessly, so take the extra minute.

- First — the outlet and the extension lead — Note whether the resets coincide with another appliance starting. That correlation is the diagnosis.
- Second — the harness connectors — With the unit unplugged, unclip and reseat each connector at the control board once. Look for green or white deposits on the pins.

Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off, so treat a stored charge as live even when the cord is in your hand. Do not run the machine with a panel off to watch what happens, and do not defeat any switch that cuts power when a door opens.
When this becomes a service call
One condition decides it. Stop at the point where the next step is measuring resistance across a sensor or voltage at a board. That work needs the machine energized and is not an owner task.
