The short answer
On a Blaze refrigerator, the cabinet is almost always losing to its surroundings rather than losing refrigerant — an outdoor unit rejects heat into air that is already hot. Ventilation and coil cleaning are owner work and they resolve most outdoor cooling complaints; anything inside the sealed circuit is a service call.
What you actually see
- The compressor runs constantly — A hum that never stops means the machine is asking for cold it cannot make, not that it is working hard.
- The freezer section stays cold, the fresh-food section does not — A split like this points at air movement between the two compartments rather than at cooling capacity.
- Cooling comes and goes over a day — Cold in the morning, warm by evening, cold again overnight — an intermittent pattern with its own short list of causes.
Causes, ranked for this refrigerator
- No air gap around the cabinet — Most likely — these units are small enough to be pushed into a cupboard, a cabinet cut-out or a corner, and a unit with no air gap cannot dump its heat anywhere. A clean result here does not just remove one part; it removes everything that depends on it.
- Condenser coils choked with dust — Common — heat has to leave through the coil, and on a small unit the coil is small too — once it is furred over, the compressor runs without ever winning. It is worth being sure about this one rather than half-sure, since everything after it assumes a verdict.
- Thermostat or temperature sensor out of calibration — Regular — a compact unit usually runs a mechanical thermostat with a capillary bulb rather than a board and a thermistor, and a bulb that has shifted off its bracket reads the wrong air. This is the entry most often blamed correctly and diagnosed carelessly, so take the extra minute.
What to check, in order
- First — the clearance around the cabinet — Check what is above and behind. A shelf sitting on the top panel or a wall against the back turns the cabinet into its own oven.
- Second — the condenser coils — Pull the unit out, look at the coil at the back or under the base, and run a dry brush over it. A coil you cannot see the fins through is the answer.
Checks an owner can do safely
- Step 1. Check the clearance around the unit — Pull the cabinet forward and look at what is behind, above and beside it. Restore an air gap on at least three sides and leave it running that way overnight before you judge anything else.

- Step 2. Look at the evaporator panel for frost — Empty the freezer section and look at the inner rear panel. Light even frost is normal; a solid sheet is a defrost fault and blocks all airflow behind it.

- Step 3. Listen at the back for a start-and-cut-out pattern — Stand behind the unit for several minutes. A click, silence, then another click is the overload cycling on a compressor that will not start, and that is where owner checks end.

Before you open anything
Safety
Power off at the plug or breaker before a panel comes off. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Everything in the sealed circuit — compressor, condenser, evaporator and the tubing between them — stays closed. If the fault is inside it, the job is a licensed one.
When this becomes a service call
One condition decides it. The moment the next step would be measuring a winding, discharging a capacitor or touching the refrigerant tubing, stop; those are licensed or trained tasks and the machine has to be running for them.
