A cycle that never completes on an Avanti MAS washer is almost always one of four things: no water, no drainage, no balance, or no door proof. All four are checkable without tools, and all four produce a machine that looks like it has simply stopped thinking.
What you notice first
- The cycle takes far longer than it used to — On MAS models, time is a symptom in its own right, and it usually precedes an outright stall.
- It runs right through but the load is still soaking — In the MAS family, the cycle completed on paper and the spin achieved nothing, which is a drainage or balance result.
- It fills and washes but abandons the spin — On MAS models in particular, out-of-balance detection, or a drain that is too slow to satisfy the control before the spin step.
- It stops and the panel shows a code or a flashing pattern — On the MAS models listed below, a displayed code is the most useful thing on the machine — write it down.
- It keeps repeating a rinse or a spin — Looking at MAS models specifically, a repeated step is a machine retrying, not a machine confused.

Likely causes for MAS models, most common first
- A restricted or absent water supply — It leads because it is free to check and because it produces the most baffling symptom — a machine that appears to be doing nothing at all.
- A load the machine cannot balance — It sits here because a single heavy item is enough, and because rearranging the drum is free. For MAS models the reasoning is identical.
- A heating step that never reaches temperature — It ranks below the mechanical causes because confirming it needs a meter, though the symptom — a very long wash — is distinctive.
- A control board or harness fault — Last: real, but far rarer than the four owner-checkable conditions above. On MAS models it earns that place.
Check in this order, and why
- Watch one full cycle and note exactly where it stops — On this family, stay with it. A guess about where it stalled is worse than no information.
- Check both taps, hoses and inlet screens — In the MAS family, a stall at fill is a supply question, and grit in the inlet screens is the commonest reason.
- Check both taps are fully open and the inlet screens are clear — A slow fill stretches or stalls a programme without ever announcing a fault.
- Repeat the programme with a smaller mixed load — On MAS models, one heavy item on its own is the classic case; add something to spread the weight.

Power off, taps off, towels down before you start — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. A stalled cycle sometimes leaves the door locked; wait for the lock to release rather than forcing it, because forcing a locked door breaks the latch and adds a fault.
