Start here, for FLW models
An Avanti FLW washer that stops partway through a cycle is usually waiting rather than broken: for water it is not getting, for drainage it cannot achieve, or for a balance it cannot find. Work out WHERE in the cycle it stops and the fault names itself.
What this looks like in use
- It stalls with water still in the drum — For the FLW line, a drain problem, and the control will not move on until the level falls.
- It stops and the panel shows a code or a flashing pattern — On the FLW models listed below, a latched fault. Note the pattern before you cut the power, because switching off may clear the evidence.
- It stops at the same point every time — In the FLW family, consistency is good news: it means the cause is a condition you can go and look at.
- It stalls early with little or no water in the drum — On FLW models, an empty drum and a stalled cycle is always a fill question first.
- It runs right through but the load is still soaking — In the FLW family, a wet load after a complete cycle belongs with the drainage page as much as here.
- NEAR MISS — it never starts at all — That is a start fault, not a cycle fault. The wont-start page for your model line is the right place.
What goes wrong here, most frequent first
- A restricted or absent water supply — It leads because it is free to check and because it produces the most baffling symptom — a machine that appears to be doing nothing at all.
- A load the machine cannot balance — It sits here because a single heavy item is enough, and because rearranging the drum is free. It sits there for FLW models too.
- A slow fill from a part-closed tap or a blocked inlet screen — The machine waits for a level it is being given too slowly, so the programme stretches or stalls.
- A control board or harness fault — Last: real, but far rarer than the four owner-checkable conditions above. The FLW models in the table below are no exception.
Work through these in order
- Watch one full cycle and note exactly where it stops — On the FLW line, fill, wash, drain or spin — the step names the short list, and nothing else on this page matters until you know it.
- Open the pump filter and clear it — A stall at drain or an abandoned spin is very often a filter that is most of the way blocked.
- Check both taps are fully open and the inlet screens are clear — Close the taps, unscrew the hose at the machine end and look at the small screen inside the fitting.
- Repeat the programme with a smaller mixed load — Within the FLW family, one heavy item on its own is the classic case; add something to spread the weight.
Before you begin
Safety
Isolate the washer at the plug or breaker before investigating anything inside; a capacitor can stay charged after the power is off. If a cycle has stalled with hot water in the drum, let it cool before opening a filter — the water behind that cover comes out fast and it can be hot.
