The short answer for MAS models
Standing water at the end of a cycle on an Avanti MAS washer has three usual causes: a blocked filter, a kinked or badly-routed drain hose, and a pump impeller fouled by a foreign object. All three are owner territory, and the order they are in is the order to check them.
Signs you can observe
- The pump hums but nothing moves — Looking at MAS models specifically, hum without drainage points at a foreign object in the pump rather than at a dead motor.
- Water is still in the drum when the cycle ends — On MAS models, standing water at the end is the definition of the fault — the question is only where the path blocked.
- The machine sits at the same point in the cycle for a long time — For the MAS line, many controls extend or repeat the drain step instead of reporting a fault.
- Water backs up out of the standpipe or the sink — On an MAS model, that is the household drain, not the machine: the machine is pumping and the house cannot take it.
- The drum will not spin even when empty — On an MAS model, an empty drum that refuses to spin is not a drainage complaint at all.
- NEAR MISS — it never filled in the first place — An empty drum and an unfinished cycle is a fill fault. Check both taps and the inlet screens instead.
What actually fails on MAS models, in order
- A blocked pump filter or coin trap — First, and it is not close: the filter exists precisely to catch what would otherwise reach the pump, and it fills.
- A kinked, crushed or badly routed drain hose — Ranked second because it is created by installation and by every time the machine is moved. It sits there for MAS models too.
- A standpipe or household waste that cannot take the flow — The machine pumps correctly and the pipe it pumps into is restricted, so the water comes back.
- A control or wiring fault at the pump circuit — Last: boards and harnesses do fail, but far less often than a filter fills. That holds for every MAS model listed here.
The order to work in
- Open the pump filter and empty it — On MAS models in particular, have a shallow tray and towels ready: the drum water comes out here, and there is more of it than you expect.
- Follow the drain hose from the machine to the outlet — On MAS models in particular, a hose crushed against a wall is the second commonest cause of the whole fault.
- Start a drain or spin and listen at the pump — On the MAS models listed below, a hum with no flow is a jam; silence is a pump, a control or a fuse.
- Redistribute the load and try a spin alone — An out-of-balance load makes a machine abandon the spin and leave the load wet.

Power off at the plug or the breaker before any filter or panel comes off — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Hot wash water scalds, so let a hot cycle cool before opening the filter. Keep the door and lid proof circuits wired exactly as the maker left them.

The owner line is the filter, the visible part of the pump, the hose and the household waste. Beyond that, call. A pump that hums against a blockage and a pump that is silent lead to different parts, so note which you have before the visit.
