Oven code F1-8 is the control reporting that the panel the control reads your presses from stopped answering cleanly. - Check for cleaner residue along the panel edges — Spray cleaner wicking under a bezel is the usual route in.
- Leave the ribbon and the board to a technician — Both are behind the console, and that is where an owner check ends.

Where the risk actually is
Safety
Before any panel comes off: unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker, because a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Nothing on this page asks you to work on a live circuit, and nothing on it asks you to alter a switch or an interlock - those are what keep the appliance safe when it is running.
When a reset is not the answer
Call at once if the machine starts a cycle nobody selected. A control acting on presses that were never made should not be left connected. In the ordinary case, call when the panel still misreads after it has dried, or when keys have gone dead permanently: a membrane and a ribbon are both service parts and the panel comes off to reach them.
