Confirm five things first: a 2.4 GHz network is available (not 5 GHz only); security is WPA2 (WPA3-only can fail on pre-2024 models); the Wi-Fi password is under 32 characters without exotic symbols; the router is within about 30 feet with no more than one wall between it and the fridge; and your internet is up, because the fridge must reach the brand cloud during setup. Getting these right up front prevents most mid-setup failures.
Samsung Family Hub / SmartThings#
On the fridge, tap Settings then Network then Wi-Fi on the Family Hub screen, or on non-Hub models hold Fridge and Freezer together 3 seconds for AP mode. In SmartThings, tap Add Device, choose Refrigerator, select your 2.4 GHz network, and enter the password. The Wi-Fi icon goes solid in 60 to 90 seconds. If a Hub model shows Connection Failed, set the correct time zone in Hub settings first — a wrong internal clock blocks the handshake.

LG InstaView and GE Profile#
On LG, hold the Wi-Fi button 3 seconds until the LED blinks fast, then in ThinQ tap Product Registration and scan the QR code inside the door; the LED goes solid in 30 to 60 seconds. Don't confuse setup mode with LG's separate Diagnosis mode, which won't accept credentials. On GE, hold the Connected or Wi-Fi icon 3 seconds, then in SmartHQ tap Add Appliance and scan the QR code near the model sticker; allow about 60 seconds for cloud registration. GE Profile fridges with Autofill also pull a firmware update within 24 hours to enable that feature.
Whirlpool#
Hold the Wi-Fi icon 5 seconds, then in the Whirlpool app tap Add Appliance, choose Refrigerator, and follow the Bluetooth prompts. Whirlpool's pairing window is shorter — about 5 minutes versus 10 to 15 on other brands — so if it times out, re-press the Wi-Fi button rather than waiting.
