Miele Dishwasher Motor Replacement Guide
If your Miele dishwasher fills and runs but leaves dishes dirty, or throws an F14 or F15 code, the circulation motor is the likely culprit — a demanding repair that means pulling the machine out and tipping it onto its back to reach the base.
Miele does something most brands do not: it gives the wash circulation and the drain their own separate motors. The circulation motor is free to spin at the speed that makes good wash pressure instead of compromising with drain duty, which is why it lasts as long as it does and why it is a dedicated part to replace.
What the Circulation Motor Does#
The motor sits at the base of the tub, tied into the sump. It pulls water up through the filter system, drives it through the flow-through heater, and pressurizes the spray-arm manifold — the bottom arm, the middle arm on the upper rack, and the top arm at the tub ceiling. On G 7000 and G 7900 machines it is a brushless DC design under the ELP board, varying its speed continuously from a gentle rinse flow to full wash pressure. The Automatic program leans on this, reading the turbidity sensor and running the motor faster when the water is dirty, easing off as the dishes clear. Models with the 3D MultiFlex third-rack tray add a fourth spray zone, so those motors carry extra capacity and are not interchangeable with standard units.

Reading the Symptom#
- F14 — the motor is not reaching its target speed; the board watches a tachometer signal and flags this when the motor cannot hold speed
- F15 — the motor is drawing too much current, which points to seized bearings or a jammed impeller
- Dishes come out dirty despite good loading — weak pressure from a tired motor never reaches the upper arms
- Humming or grinding in the wash phase — a healthy motor makes a steady low hum; grinding means bearing or impeller damage
- Washing that starts and stops — the board sees overcurrent and drops the motor as thermal protection
- Water pooling in the top rack — not enough pressure to push water through the upper arm

Replacing the Motor#
This is one of the harder Miele dishwasher jobs — the motor lives deep in the sump and you have to move a machine that weighs on the order of 80 to 110 pounds.
- Cut power at the breaker, close the water valve, and disconnect supply and drain lines.
- Pull the unit fully out and lay it on its back on a blanket or cardboard.
- Remove the base cover plate (Torx Plus T20).
- Photograph the connections — the motor has several hoses and a multi-pin plug.
- Unplug the motor from the board harness.
- Release the spray-arm supply hose at the motor outlet with spring-clamp pliers.
- Release the bayonet-style sump-to-motor fitting.
- Back out the three or four Torx Plus T20 mounting screws and lift the motor out, noting impeller and gasket orientation.
- Transfer any gaskets or adapters that did not ship with the new motor.
- Reassemble in reverse, making sure the bayonet locks fully — a partial seat leaks immediately.
Tools: Torx Plus T15 and T20 drivers, spring-clamp pliers, a multimeter, padding, and an extra set of hands to move the machine.
When to Call a Pro#
Because misalignment on reassembly causes instant leaks, and the brushless-DC motors on G 7000 and G 7900 units may need the board told a new motor was fitted, professional service is the safer call for most owners. It is worth confirming the machine's age first — on a unit well inside Miele's 20-year design life the repair pays off, while on a 15-plus-year machine you weigh it against replacement.

Making a Motor Last#
Miele circulation motors typically run 15 to 20 years, helped by never having to do drain duty.
