This tapers off after the first cycles and is nothing to repair. If the unit is new, run that ventilated burn-off and expect the smoke to stop.

On a ProBake model the rear element is in plain view, so a failing one is often visible: look for bright spark points along it during operation, which signal arcing and an acrid, electrical smell.
