Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Close the water supply before touching a fitting, and treat the sealed system as licensed work in every case.
Which of these you can take on
Drain clearing, coil cleaning, filter changes, levelling and gasket cleaning are owner work and need no meter. A manual defrost is owner work and is also a diagnostic result worth having. Everything behind the freezer rear panel, everything at the compressor terminals and everything on the sealed system is a service call. Call immediately rather than investigating if a breaker trips whenever the cabinet is connected, or if you can smell hot insulation.
