The short answer
An ecozy compact dishwasher smells because water is standing somewhere it should not be. On this class the usual places are the small sump filter, the folds of the door gasket, the loop in the drain hose and — on tank-fill models — the fill tank itself. All four are owner jobs, and none of them is fixed by a stronger detergent. What you have is a tap-fed countertop machine that couples to the kitchen faucet for the length of the cycle.
What you are seeing
- A stale or sour smell when the door is opened
- A visible grey or pink film in the sump or around the filter
- A smell that is strongest at the door gasket
- If water is standing in the base at the end of a cycle, the drainage page is the primary and the smell is a symptom — This points at a different fault; the page named above covers it.
Most likely causes on a countertop dishwasher, in order
- The hoses handled and stored wet after every cycle — the fill and drain hoses are coiled and put away damp between uses, which is exactly the condition a film needs, and it is specific to a machine that is coupled and uncoupled each time
- Biofilm in the filter and sump — first, because a compact machine has no food grinder and a very small sump, so everything that comes off a plate sits on one screen in a warm damp box between cycles
- The door gasket and the underside of the door lip — the second reservoir: soft folds hold water and food, they are never reached by the wash, and they are exactly where the smell is strongest when you put your nose to it
What to check, and why in this order
- Drain and dry both hoses after each use — On a tap-fed machine they are stored wet and coiled between cycles
- Put your nose to the gasket, then to the open filter, then to the hose end. — Whichever is strongest tells you where to start and saves cleaning all three blind
- Pull and wash the filter and sump screen — It is the most common source and the machine cannot clean itself while it is dirty
Step by step
- Unplug the machine, lift out the filter assembly and the sump screen, and wash both in hot soapy water with an old toothbrush. — Time: several minutes.
Tools: toothbrush, washing-up liquid
- After each cycle, drain both hoses into the sink and hang them to dry rather than coiling them away wet. — Time: a few minutes.
- Wipe the sump recess out with a cloth and remove anything sitting in it. — Time: several minutes.
Tools: cloth, torch
- Wash the door gasket, working into every fold, and clean the underside of the door lip where water collects. — Time: several minutes.
Tools: toothbrush, cloth
Before you start: safety
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Never mix a dishwasher cleaner, vinegar or any acid with bleach or with a chlorine product — the combination releases a toxic gas. Use one product per cycle, run the machine empty when cleaning it, and unplug it before removing a filter.
When to stop and call a technician
Call for service when the smell returns within days of a full clean, when water is standing in the base between cycles, or when the smell is coming from behind the tub rather than from the filter, gasket or hose. A persistent smell with clean components usually means water is being retained somewhere you cannot reach.

What this page does not cover
This is generalized information: it covers ecozy dishwashers as a class, not one family or model. It does not carry your model's error-code table, wiring, part numbers, capacities or ambient range — those are on the rating plate and in the documentation, which are the authority wherever they disagree with this page. It leads with one form, the tap-fed countertop machine that couples to the kitchen faucet for the length of the cycle, and flags where the others diverge. Any family- or model-specific page is reached from the brand hub below, and takes precedence over this one. Pages this one hands down to: Common Ecozy Dishwasher Problems (ecozy-dishwasher-problems).
