The short answer
Water left standing in an ecozy compact dishwasher is nearly always about where the drain hose is, not about the pump. This class drains through a short hose into a sink rather than into a plumbed waste, so hose height, kinks and where the end sits decide whether the pump can move water at all. That is the first thing to fix and it takes a minute. What you have is a tap-fed countertop machine that couples to the kitchen faucet for the length of the cycle.
What you are seeing
- Water standing in the base at the end of every cycle
- The machine drains partly and stops with an inch of water left
- Dirty water backing up into the machine from the sink
- If water is on the floor rather than in the base, the leak page is the right one — This points at a different fault; the page named above covers it.
Most likely causes on a countertop dishwasher, in order
- The quick-connect coupling at the tap — the coupling is under mains pressure for the whole cycle, it is fitted and removed by hand each time, and it sits directly above kitchen cupboards — on this form it is both the likeliest leak and the most damaging
- Drain hose height, routing or kinks — first, and this is the single biggest difference between this class and a built-in machine: the hose has to lift over a sink lip, and a hose that is kinked, lying below the machine or hooked too low turns a healthy pump into a machine that will not drain
- The hose end sitting in standing water — if the sink is full or the hose end is under water, the machine siphons back what it just pushed out and the base never empties
What to check, and why in this order
- Pressurise the coupling with the machine idle and watch it — A joint that only weeps under pressure looks perfectly dry between cycles
- Look at the hose before you look at the machine. Lift it clear of the sink, straighten it, and make sure the end is above the water line and not pushed deep into a standpipe — This alone resolves most of these
- Bail the standing water out and pull the filter. A blocked screen is second — It is the most common cause once the hose is right, and clearing it costs nothing
Step by step
- Bail the standing water out of the base with a cup and a sponge before doing anything else. — Time: several minutes.
Tools: cup, sponge
- Open the tap with the machine idle and watch the coupling and the hose under pressure for several minutes. — Time: several minutes.
Tools: paper towel
- Unhook the drain hose, straighten its whole run, and re-hook it so it rises over the sink lip and its end hangs clear above any standing water. — Time: a few minutes.
- Empty the sink and run the tap to prove the sink itself drains freely. — Time: a minute.
Before you start: safety
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Unplug the machine before reaching into the sump, and use a cloth rather than bare fingers — broken glass is the most common thing found in a dishwasher sump and it is not visible in standing water. Do not run the machine with the filter removed.
When to stop and call a technician
Call for service when the hose is proven clear and correctly hung, the filter and sump are clean, and the pump still hums without moving water, or is silent when it should run. A drain pump on a compact machine is a service part rather than a homeowner replacement.

What this page does not cover
This is generalized information: it covers ecozy dishwashers as a class, not one family or model. It does not carry your model's error-code table, wiring, part numbers, capacities or ambient range — those are on the rating plate and in the documentation, which are the authority wherever they disagree with this page. It leads with one form, the tap-fed countertop machine that couples to the kitchen faucet for the length of the cycle, and flags where the others diverge. Any family- or model-specific page is reached from the brand hub below, and takes precedence over this one. Pages this one hands down to: Common Ecozy Dishwasher Problems (ecozy-dishwasher-problems).
