The short answer
On EcoFlow portable units the usual reason a fridge-freezer stops holding temperature is not the cooling system at all — it is the supply. A DC compressor cabinet cuts out on its own low-voltage protection long before it fails, so the first thing to establish is what voltage is actually arriving and what protection level the unit is set to. That is an owner check; a compressor that will not start on a proven supply is not. What you have is a portable DC box that is carried, powered from a battery as often as from mains, and defrosted by hand.
What you are seeing
- The compartment sits above the setpoint while the display still shows the unit as running
- The compressor starts, runs briefly and stops, repeating on a short loop
- The unit runs on the mains adapter but not from the DC input, or the reverse

Most likely causes on a portable DC refrigerator, in order
- Supply voltage and the low-voltage cut-out setting — a DC fridge is built to protect the battery feeding it, so it stops cooling on purpose when voltage sags — on this class that behaviour is the most common "not cooling" call there is, and the protection level is a user setting
- The power path itself — a loose cigarette-lighter socket, a long thin cable or a worn plug drops voltage under compressor load
- Ambient heat and blocked ventilation — a portable is used in a car, a boot or a closet where its condenser fan has nowhere to push heat
What to check, and why in this order
- Measure or read the supply at the unit while the compressor is trying to start, not while it idles — The sag only appears under load, which is exactly why this is first
- Move the unit to the mains adapter. — If it holds temperature on mains and not on DC, you have finished diagnosing and the rest of the list is irrelevant

- Empty the unit down to what fits in a cooler, so that whatever you do next is not fighting a warm load. — Time: a few minutes.
- Connect the mains adapter in a cool room and let it run undisturbed with the lid shut. Note whether the compartment falls steadily. — Time: the better part of an hour before you judge it.

Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Do not run a portable DC unit from an improvised adapter or a household extension lead into a vehicle socket. Never puncture, heat or pry at the aluminium evaporator plate or any tubing to speed up defrosting — the tubing carries refrigerant under pressure and a puncture ends the appliance and can injure you. Use warm air or time only.
When to stop and call a technician
Call for service when the unit will not cool on a proven mains supply in a cool room, when the compressor draws power but never starts, or when the controller reports the same fault after the supply has been ruled out. Anything involving the sealed system or the DC controller is a bench job.
