Before anything is condemned on a Cavin refrigerator, it is worth separating two different faults that look identical from the front: air that cannot circulate inside, and heat that cannot leave at the back. That puts a door that is not actually sealing at the top of the list here and a warm load, or too much of one at the bottom.
What the machine is doing
- Ice cream is soft but nothing has thawed — A small, consistent temperature rise rather than a failure — often a door or an ambient change.
- Condensation inside the cabinet walls — Warm humid air is entering somewhere and meeting cold surfaces.
- NEAR MISS — only the ice supply has stopped while food is still cold — That is an ice-maker or water-supply fault. The cabinet is doing its job.
Causes, most likely first on this unit
- A door that is not actually sealing — A gasket that has taken a set, a door resting against the latch rather than closed, or a shelf holding the door open by a hair will warm a cabinet without any other fault present. A glass cellar door carries a soft gasket and a long hinge, and on a tall cabinet the gasket at the top corner is usually the first part to stop touching.
- Ambient temperature outside what the unit was rated for — Refrigeration is rated against surrounding air. Cellar cabinets are routinely installed in a dining room or a converted closet, and a cabinet asked to hold cellar temperature in a warm room runs continuously without ever getting there.
- Blocked return air or a stalled evaporator fan — Cold air has to circulate. Wooden racks are solid and block the return path if a bottle or a box sits against the rear wall, which the cabinet cannot see.
- A damper or diffuser stuck shut — The flap that meters cold air into the fresh-food compartment can stick, leaving one side cold and the other warm with nothing else wrong.
- A warm load, or too much of one — Everything put in warm has to be cooled by the same small system.
Check in this order, and why
- Put a hand on the rear grille or the condenser area — Strong heat means the system is working and the problem is heat rejection.
- Listen for the internal fan with the door open and the switch held in — A running evaporator fan separates an air-path fault from a refrigeration one in seconds and costs nothing.
- Look at the freezer rear panel for frost — Frost hiding the vents confirms the air path is blocked and tells you the defrost side is where to look.
What an owner can safely do
- Check the doors close themselves from a hand-width open — If not, level the cabinet slightly nose-high and try again.

- Empty the cabinet of anything blocking a vent — Leave a clear path in front of every opening on the rear and side walls.
- STOP at the point where a panel or a meter is needed — Testing a fan motor, a defrost heater or a sensor means live terminals behind a panel.
The safety line

Everything above is done with the unit plugged in and closed, or with it unplugged. The moment a panel has to come off, kill the power at the breaker first: a stored charge does not care that the machine is off. Never wedge or tape a door switch to keep a fan running while you look.
Where the owner side ends
Call once the condenser, the door and the air path are all clean and the cabinet still will not hold temperature — at that point the remaining candidates are behind a panel.
