The short answer
Before a board is condemned on a Cavin refrigerator, two things have to be true: the machine is not in a mode, and the sensors it steers by are telling the truth. That puts a lock, demo or showroom mode at the top of the list here and a temperature sensor that has drifted at the bottom.
Symptoms, including the ones that mean something else
- The unit cools but ignores what you set — A control that will not follow its setpoint has either lost the sensor it steers by or is in a preset mode.
- The temperature display drifts by a degree or two over hours — Normal on most cabinets; they show a rolling average rather than an instant reading.
- NEAR MISS — the cabinet is warm and the panel is fine — Treat it as a cooling fault; the control is reporting honestly.
Causes, most likely first on this unit
- A lock, demo or showroom mode — Every modern cabinet has at least one. It leads on a cellar cabinet because the setpoint is the product: a zone configured for reds is doing exactly what it was told while the owner reads it as a fault.
- A damper motor that has lost position — One compartment then runs to its own rules regardless of what the panel is set to. Electronics are checked here because a mode or a lock imitates a dead machine and costs nothing to clear.
- A supply event — a surge, a sag or a brownout — Control boards are the part that remembers a power event. Settings that reset themselves, or a panel that behaves differently after an outage, point straight here. Supply is proved before anything is condemned, because a dead outlet and a dead appliance look identical.
- A temperature sensor that has drifted — A sensor that reads warm makes the unit run forever; one that reads cold makes it stop early.
The diagnostic order
- Write the code down exactly as shown — Digits, letters and the order matter, and the code is the fastest thing a technician can act on before arriving.
- Try the panel unlock sequence — Usually a button held for several seconds.
- Compare both compartments against thermometers — A single compartment disagreeing points at its damper or its sensor.
- Note whether the code appears at the same time each day — A code tied to the defrost cycle names the system before anyone opens anything.
What an owner can safely do
- Clear any lock and exit demo mode — Work through the panel sequences for your unit before anything else.
- Check the door alarm behaves correctly with each door — It tests both switches without any tools at all.
- STOP before opening the control housing — Sensors and boards are tested with a meter on live terminals behind a panel. That is where an owner check ends.

Do not silence a temperature alarm and walk away: the alarm exists to protect the food, not to annoy you. Unplug before any panel is opened, and remember a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off.
When to call a technician
A cleared lock and a clean reboot are yours. Anything that persists past them is a sensor, a harness or a board, and all three are diagnosed with a meter behind a panel. Call sooner rather than later when the control fault is keeping the cabinet from cooling.
