The short answer
Owners of this refrigerator land here for one reason, and a split gasket cannot be repaired, but confirming it is a split rather than a set saves buying the wrong answer. The inspection is owner work; fitting a replacement gasket is straightforward on some cabinets and a panel-off job on others.
What you actually see
- Condensation on the inside of the door frame — Beads of water on the frame mark where warm room air is meeting cold cabinet air.
- The seal is hard, cracked or torn — The rubber loses its flexibility with age and stops recovering its shape after the door opens.
- The compressor runs far more than it used to — A leaking door is a continuous load, and longer run times are the first measurable effect.
Causes, ranked for this refrigerator
- Torn or split gasket — Check this first: it is lower than wear only because a split is obvious once anybody looks, so it rarely goes undiagnosed for long. It is worth being sure about this one rather than half-sure, since everything after it assumes a verdict.
- Gasket compressed flat from age — Check this second: the seal works by springing back into shape, and once the rubber has taken a set it cannot bridge the gap it used to. This is the entry most often blamed correctly and diagnosed carelessly, so take the extra minute.

Kill the supply at the plug or the breaker, then check nothing can be switched back on by somebody else. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. If a step only makes sense with the machine running, it is a technician step and not one of these.
