The short answer

- Evaporator fan not moving air — Next: on a two-compartment unit the fan is what carries cold from where it is made to where you keep food, so a stalled fan reads exactly like lost cooling. If this is the answer, the rest of the list stops mattering entirely.
- Door seal not closing the cabinet — Then: warm humid air coming in never stops, so the unit never catches up and the symptom reads as lost cooling rather than as a door problem. Where this checks out clean, treat the next entry as the working theory rather than a possibility.
What to check, in order
- First — the evaporator for frost — Look at the inner rear panel of the freezer section. A smooth white sheet rather than light frost means the defrost cycle is not clearing it.
- Second — the evaporator fan — Listen at the fresh-food vents. Silence with the compressor running is a fan problem, not a compressor problem.

Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. The cooling circuit is sealed and under pressure: do not cut, bend, kink or unbraze any tubing, and do not attempt to add or recover refrigerant — that is licensed work and the tubing is not repairable with hand tools.
