The short answer
Owners of this refrigerator land here for one reason, and the installation changed and the machine is telling you about it, which is a better first theory than a component that failed the same week. Clearance, levelling and a rest period cover almost all of these, and all three are free.
What you actually see
- Food spoils faster than it used to — Milk turns a day or two early and salad greens wilt, which is the earliest honest sign that the cabinet has drifted warm.
- The compressor never runs at all — Silence at the back, a light that still comes on, and a cabinet slowly matching the room.
- The back wall inside is frosted solid — A sheet of ice on the inner rear panel blocks the airflow that is supposed to carry cold forward.
Causes, ranked for this refrigerator
- No air gap around the cabinet — Check this first: the installation is the most common thing that changes right before cooling stops, and a snug new spot is the most common installation change of all. It is worth being sure about this one rather than half-sure, since everything after it assumes a verdict.
- Condenser coils choked with dust — Check this second: a compact cabinet has very little coil area to spare, so the film of dust that a full-size unit shrugs off is enough here to stop heat leaving the cabinet altogether. This is the entry most often blamed correctly and diagnosed carelessly, so take the extra minute.
- Door seal not closing the cabinet — Third in order: warm humid air coming in never stops, so the unit never catches up and the symptom reads as lost cooling rather than as a door problem. Confirm it before moving on, because the entries below read differently once it is ruled out.
What to check, in order
- First — the clearance around the cabinet — Measure nothing — just look. If you cannot get a hand behind, above and to one side of the cabinet, pull it forward and run it that way for a day.
- Second — the condenser coils — Feel the coil area with the back of your hand after an hour of running. Even heat means it is shedding; a cold coil behind a hot cabinet means it is blocked.

- Step 1. Test the door seal with a sheet of paper — Shut the door on a sheet of paper and pull it out. Repeat every hand-width around the frame. Free-sliding paper marks the spot where room air is getting in.

- Step 2. Look at the evaporator panel for frost — Empty the freezer section and look at the inner rear panel. Light even frost is normal; a solid sheet is a defrost fault and blocks all airflow behind it.

- Step 3. Listen at the back for a start-and-cut-out pattern — Stand behind the unit for several minutes. A click, silence, then another click is the overload cycling on a compressor that will not start, and that is where owner checks end.

Before you open anything
Safety
Power off at the plug or breaker before a panel comes off. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Everything in the sealed circuit — compressor, condenser, evaporator and the tubing between them — stays closed. If the fault is inside it, the job is a licensed one.
When this becomes a service call
The line is not about confidence, it is about what the next step needs. If the coil is clean, the seals hold, the fans run and the frost pattern is normal, the remaining candidates all need a meter or a gauge set on a running machine — that is service work.
