The short answer
A Beko BFFD refrigerator leaks in one of two places, and which one tells you the whole story. Water at the bottom, under the freezer drawer, is the defrost drain frozen in sub-freezing space. Water running down the inside of the upper compartment, or beading at the centre of the two doors, is the mullion seal - a source of water no single-door cabinet has.
What you observe
- Water running down the inner edges of the upper doors — Condensation from a mullion that is not sealing - a door fault rather than a drain fault.
- A sheet of ice under the freezer drawer basket — The defrost drain behind the rear panel has frozen.
- Water running out under the drawer face — The same blockage, once the ice has filled the space available.
- Water on the floor behind the cabinet — The drain tube or the tray, or on an IM code the supply connection.
- NEAR MISS - water everywhere and the cabinet is warm — A cabinet that has stopped cooling is thawing; the cooling page comes first.
Causes, most likely first on this family
- Mullion not sealing at the centre — First on this platform, because it puts water inside the fresh-food compartment with nothing else wrong.
- Frozen defrost drain behind the freezer rear panel — Second, and the leading cause of water at the bottom of the cabinet.
- Freezer drawer not sealing — Third, and the reason the drain is asked to carry more meltwater than it was built for.
- Drain tube off its spigot or tray displaced — Fourth, and usually traceable to the cabinet having been moved.
- Ice-maker supply connection weeping — Last, and only on the codes carrying IM.
Check in this order, and why
- Decide whether the water is high or low in the cabinet — First, because high is the mullion and low is the drain - two unrelated repairs.
- Close each upper door slowly and watch the mullion fold — Second, if the water is high. It confirms the cause without a tool.
- Empty the drawer and look at the base of the freezer rear panel — Third, if the water is low. Ice sheeting there is the drain.
- Thaw the drain with warm water poured slowly — Fourth, with the cabinet unplugged, repeating rather than probing.
Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Shut off the water supply before touching an ice-maker connection. Mop before working. Never clear a frozen drain with a metal probe, because the evaporator tubing sits directly behind that panel.

When to call a technician
Call when the drain clears and refreezes within weeks, or when the mullion will not seal after its pivot is freed. Call also if a supply fitting weeps where you cannot isolate it.
