The short answer
A Beko BSFD refrigerator puts water in one of two places, and which one settles the diagnosis. Water running down the inside of the upper compartment is the centre seal between the two doors. Water at the bottom of the cabinet, under the freezer drawer, is the defrost drain frozen in sub-freezing space. The code carries no water connection, so nothing here is plumbed.
What you observe
- Water running down the inner edges of the upper doors — Condensation from a centre gap - a door fault rather than a drain fault.
- A step along the top edge where the doors meet — One door sitting low, which is what opens that gap.
- A sheet of ice under the freezer drawer basket — The defrost drain behind the rear panel has frozen.
- Water running out under the drawer face — The same blockage once the ice has filled the space available.
- NEAR MISS - water everywhere and the cabinet is warm — A cabinet that has stopped cooling is thawing; the cooling page comes first.
Causes, most likely first on this family
- Upper doors not meeting flush at the centre — First, because it puts water inside the fresh-food compartment with nothing else wrong.
- Frozen defrost drain behind the freezer rear panel — Second, and the leading cause of water at the bottom of the cabinet.
- Freezer drawer not sealing — Third, and the reason the drain has more meltwater to pass than it was built for.
- Drain tube off its spigot or tray displaced — Fourth, and usually traceable to the cabinet having been moved.
- Defrost heater or control working intermittently — Last, and the reason a cleared drain ices again.
Check in this order, and why
- Decide whether the water is high or low in the cabinet — First, because high is a door and low is a drain - two unrelated repairs.
- Look along the top edge where the doors meet — Second, if the water is high. A step there confirms the cause.
- Empty the drawer and look at the base of the freezer rear panel — Third, if the water is low. Ice sheeting there is the drain.
- Thaw the drain with warm water poured slowly — Fourth, with the cabinet unplugged, repeating rather than probing.
Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Mop before working: water on a hard floor beside a live appliance is a shock risk. Never clear a frozen drain with a metal probe, because the evaporator tubing sits directly behind that panel.

When to call a technician
