The STW answer in short
A cycle that never completes on an Avanti STW washer is almost always one of four things: no water, no drainage, no balance, or no door proof. All four are checkable without tools, and all four produce a machine that looks like it has simply stopped thinking.
What the owner sees
- The time remaining jumps up instead of down — On the STW models listed below, rising time is a fault indication, not a display bug.
- It stalls with water still in the drum — On this family, water present plus a stalled cycle points at the filter and the pump path.
- It stops at the same point every time — For STW models, consistency is good news: it means the cause is a condition you can go and look at.
- It stalls early with little or no water in the drum — On an STW model, an empty drum and a stalled cycle is always a fill question first.
- It stops and the panel shows a code or a flashing pattern — In the STW family, a latched fault. Note the pattern before you cut the power, because switching off may clear the evidence.
- NEAR MISS — it never starts at all — That is a start fault, not a cycle fault. The wont-start page for your model line is the right place.
Ranked causes on the STW line
- A restricted or absent water supply — First, because a machine that cannot reach its fill level simply waits, and the commonest reasons are a half-closed tap and a silted inlet screen.
- A heating step that never reaches temperature — On a machine that heats its own water, a failed element or sensor leaves the cycle waiting at the wash step indefinitely. That holds for every STW model listed here.
- A slow fill from a part-closed tap or a blocked inlet screen — It belongs here because both the tap and the inlet screen are outside the machine and checkable in minutes.
- A control board or harness fault — Last: real, but far rarer than the four owner-checkable conditions above. That is the position it takes on this family.
The order to work in
- Watch one full cycle and note exactly where it stops — Where STW models are concerned, fill, wash, drain or spin — the step names the short list, and nothing else on this page matters until you know it.
- Redistribute the load and run a spin alone — Across the STW line, if a spin-only cycle completes on a rearranged load, the fault was balance.
- Check both taps are fully open and the inlet screens are clear — A slow fill stretches or stalls a programme without ever announcing a fault.
- Repeat the programme with a smaller mixed load — On STW models, one heavy item on its own is the classic case; add something to spread the weight.
Read this before you start
Safety
Unplug the washer before any panel or hose comes off — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Do not interfere with the door latch or the lid proof to make a stalled machine continue: the proof circuit is what keeps the drum still while the door is open. Water and mains share this cabinet, so dry hands and a dry floor.

Where the owner line falls
Call once you can say where the cycle stops, both taps are open with clear screens, the filter and drain path are clear and a smaller balanced load makes no difference. What is left is a level sensor, a heater, a motor control or the board, and all of those need a meter behind a panel.
