LG Dishwasher Control Board
LG boards carry the EBR prefix and fail suddenly rather than gradually — usually a power surge or slow moisture intrusion, and usually a burnt relay. The swap is easy. The expensive mistake is buying one you did not need, because a bad board imitates a dozen other components.
Why one failure takes out everything#
Most LG dishwashers put the user interface and the machine logic on a single PCB, where other brands split them into separate UI and main boards. There is no partial operation here — no state where buttons work but the machine ignores them.
Relay burnout is the usual mechanism. The relays switching the wash motor and heating element carry real current, and with marginal wiring or frequent brownouts those contacts pit until they weld shut or fail open. A welded relay on the heater circuit is the dangerous one, leaving the element powered indefinitely.
Board, or something cheaper?#
| Symptom | Read this as |
|---|---|
| Display completely dead with confirmed power at the junction box | Board |
| Some button presses register, others never do | Board — trace failure at the membrane connector |
| Cycle starts but skips a stage: fills without washing, washes without draining | Board |
| Burning smell from behind the door panel | Board — stop and inspect |
| Scorch marks, bubbled solder, cracked components on the PCB | Board, visibly |
| Fills but will not drain | Drain pump first — part 4681EA2001T |
| No heat during the wash | Test the heating element for continuity first |
| Door will not latch | Mechanical latch failure, though the switch signals the board |
| Random codes that change every cycle | Usually a loose connector or marginal sensor. Reseat everything before condemning the board |
LG Smart Diagnosis through the ThinQ app reads stored codes and sensor data straight out of the board's memory. There is a useful inversion too: if the board cannot talk to ThinQ over a working WiFi connection, that silence is the confirmation.

Getting the part number right#
Current production uses EBR86473413; pre-2019 machines generally take EBR73739203, and aftermarket boards exist. The trap is that LDF, LDT and LDP model numbers can use different revisions while looking identical outside — match the full model number, never the board's dimensions.
The swap#
Kill the breaker and confirm the display is dead. Close the door halfway, the angle that exposes the outer panel fasteners. You want a Torx T15 for the outer panel (LG does not use Phillips there), a Phillips #2 for the inner panel and board screws, and a camera.
- Remove the 8 Torx T15 screws around the outer door panel, lift it off the hinges and lay it face-down on a towel.
- The board sits in a plastic housing at the top of the inner door, with 4-6 ribbon cables and harnesses.
- Photograph every connector. They are keyed by size and pin count, but a photo saves the fifteen-minute puzzle on the way back.
- Press the locking tab before pulling each one; never lever them sideways.
- Remove the 3-4 Phillips screws from the board bracket, then move any thermal pads or insulating sheets across.
- Seat the new board, reconnect until each tab clicks, rebuild the door.
Restore power and run Rinse Only — it exercises fill, wash motor and drain without a two-hour cycle. Then run Smart Diagnosis to confirm nothing is stored, and re-pair: delete the old device from ThinQ and add the dishwasher fresh, since the pairing data lived on the board you removed.
Safety First — Know the Risks
Live 120V wiring in a wet environment is one of the most dangerous DIY scenarios. Water + electricity = serious shock risk. Our techs are licensed and insured — let them handle the risk.

Stopping the next one#
Voltage spikes are the number one cause. Fit a point-of-use surge protector at the junction box under the counter rather than relying on a whole-house unit. If boards have failed across several appliances, have an electrician check for neutral-ground bonding problems.
When to hand it over#
Budget 45-90 minutes for a first attempt; the difficulty is the diagnosis, not the swap. Call someone if you have not confirmed the board through Smart Diagnosis or visual inspection, if multiple stored codes suggest another component took it down (a shorted heating element can), or if you have an LG Studio or SIGNATURE model with separate UI and logic boards.
Boards are covered 1 year, parts and labour. The 10-year coverage applies to the Direct Drive motor and refrigerator linear compressors, not boards.
One alternative: if the fault is a single burnt relay, an electronics technician can desolder and replace it. Once the microcontroller or power supply section is damaged, replacement is the only route.
