Is Your Frigidaire Oven Not Heating?
On a Frigidaire gas range the most likely cause is a weak igniter that still glows but no longer draws enough current to open the gas valve. On an electric range it is usually a burned-out bake element, and after a power outage, a tripped thermal fuse.
Gas and electric fail differently#
Frigidaire ranges sit on the Electrolux platform, and the no-heat cause splits cleanly by fuel type. Gas models such as the FGGF3036TF and FFGF3054TS use a flat silicon-carbide igniter that weakens with age; it keeps glowing but its rising resistance drops the current below what the gas safety valve needs to open, so it never lights. The tell is what you observe. A gas igniter that glows orange but produces no flame is the classic weak-igniter signature. An electric element that stays dark or shows a break is a burned element. And a range that quit right after a power outage often has a tripped thermal fuse or a control that lost its calibration.

Check it yourself, in order#
- Disconnect power, or shut off gas and power, before testing anything.
- On a gas model, watch the igniter: a glow with no flame after 90 seconds means a weak igniter that cannot open the valve.
- On an electric model, inspect the bake and broil elements for breaks or blisters and confirm a uniform glow when energized.
- Measure element continuity with power off; a working element reads roughly 15 to 30 ohms and an open reading means replace.
- If the oven died after an outage, test the thermal fuse behind the back panel for continuity.
- Try a full reset, cutting the oven breaker off for two full minutes, before condemning the control board relay.
Prevent the repeat#
A silicon-carbide igniter is a wear part, so a gas oven that preheats slower and slower is giving early warning to replace it before it fails completely. On electric models, avoiding heavy spills baked onto the element and letting the oven cycle normally rather than forcing it extends element life. A surge protector on the range circuit is also worthwhile, since power outages are what trip the thermal fuse and scramble the control calibration in the first place, and a clean shutdown avoids both.
