Frigidaire Oven F1: ERC Board Internal Fault
What F1 Means on an Oven vs. a Microwave
F1 appears on both Frigidaire ovens and microwaves, but the meaning differs. On ovens, F1 indicates the Electronic Range Control (ERC) board has detected an internal calibration or reference voltage error. The board's self-check routine found a discrepancy in its own circuits.
On 2020+ models with updated firmware, F1 may also indicate a stuck-key condition on the oven touchpad (similar to how Er works on dishwashers).

Diagnosis by Symptom
F1 appears and the oven never heats: The ERC board is the primary suspect. The board's internal fault prevents it from commanding the bake or broil relays.
F1 appears during cooking and the oven shuts off: The temperature sensor may have drifted enough to send an out-of-range reading that the board interprets as a self-check failure. Test the sensor: it should read 1,080-1,090 ohms at room temperature.
F1 appears on power-up before any button press: On newer models, this indicates a touchpad membrane short. Try the breaker-off-for-five-minutes reset. If F1 returns immediately, the touchpad or board has failed.
Temperature Sensor Test
The oven temperature sensor (RTD type, not NTC like dryers) is a long metal probe that extends into the oven cavity, usually from the top rear wall. Its connector is accessible behind the oven, at the back panel.
- Turn off the breaker. Disconnect the sensor's two-pin connector.
- Measure resistance: 1,080-1,090 ohms at room temperature (72F).
- If within range, the sensor is healthy and the board is at fault.
- If reading is significantly off (below 900 or above 1,300 ohms), replace the sensor.
Part: 316490000 or model-specific, $15-$30.
Safety First — Know the Risks
Gas ovens involve live gas lines — a loose connection creates explosion and carbon monoxide risk. Electric ovens run on 240V circuits. Our techs are licensed and insured — let them handle the risk.

Board Replacement
Part: model-specific ERC, $100-$300. The board mounts behind the oven's upper control panel. Remove the screws securing the control panel or back guard. Photograph all connectors. Transfer one at a time. Most Frigidaire ERC boards use a plug-in design that does not require soldering.

Gallery vs. Standard
Gallery and Professional Series ovens use higher-end ERC boards with convection fan control and additional sensor inputs. The F1 diagnostic covers more circuits on Gallery boards, so F1 on a Gallery model may require more detailed testing to isolate the failure. Standard models have simpler boards where F1 almost always means sensor or board-level failure.
FAQ
Can I still use the stovetop burners with F1? On ranges (combined oven/cooktop), the stovetop burners operate independently from the oven ERC on gas models. Electric cooktop elements may share the ERC, in which case F1 may disable both oven and cooktop.
F1 appeared after a self-clean cycle. Related? Self-clean cycles reach 900 degrees F. The extreme heat stresses the temperature sensor, wiring, and board components. Post-self-clean F1 often indicates the sensor wiring insulation degraded from the heat.
Does F1 mean the oven is overheating? Not necessarily. F1 is a board self-check failure, not an overtemperature alert (that would be F10). However, if the sensor has drifted, the oven may heat inaccurately.
