- A puddle that appears only in cold weather — The signature of duct condensation rather than a machine fault.
- Water at the back of the machine after a cycle — On a vented machine, condensation running back down a cold duct; on a condensing machine, the tank or pump path.
- The condensate tank fills quickly, or the condenser filter has never been removed — A condensing dryer has two filter stages and a water-handling path a vented machine does not have.
- NEAR MISS — water only when the washer runs — Then the source is the washer beside it, and the washer leak page applies.

- Third: Note whether it happens only in cold weather and whether the duct has a low spot or a long uninsulated run. — Only once the checks above are clean.

Water and a heating appliance on a laundry circuit deserve caution. Switch the dryer off at its breaker and unplug it before kneeling in a wet area or removing any panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Dry the floor before working, and never let condensate stand inside the cabinet, since it carries lint and reaches connectors.
When to call a technician
Call a technician when a condensing machine leaks internally with a clean condenser and a properly seated tank, or when the pump does not run. Call a builder or a fitter rather than an appliance technician if the water proves to be duct condensation or rain entering a vent hood, because that is an installation fault rather than a machine fault.
