What this usually means
Most of the time on a EuroDesign dryer this comes down to one of two findings: restricted airflow keeping the load damp, or a door switch dropping out mid-cycle. A cycle that ends early is nearly always a sensing problem and a cycle that never ends is nearly always an airflow problem, and one timed cycle tells you which you have.
What you are looking at
- The estimated time jumps around wildly — Normal on an auto cycle, since the machine recalculates as it measures — unless it never converges.
- The cycle ends after a few minutes with a damp load — The sensing system is reporting dryness early.
- The condensate tank fills quickly, or the condenser filter has never been removed — A condensing dryer has two filter stages and a water-handling path a vented machine does not have.
- NEAR MISS — the drum turns but the air is cold throughout — That is the heating page.
Causes, most likely first
- Restricted airflow keeping the load damp — Ranked first on a EuroDesign dryer because built-in ventilation is a designed channel with a designed clearance, and it is routinely blocked after a kitchen refit. A machine that cannot exhaust never reaches a dry reading, so the auto cycle simply keeps going.
- A door switch dropping out mid-cycle — Second here: a fitted door adds weight and leverage to a hinge that was set for a bare door, so seal and alignment faults arrive early.
- A blocked filter or lint housing — The first restriction in the path, and the one that changes the cycle length most for the least effort.
Where to start, and why there
- First: Feel the air at the outside hood; then disconnect the duct and compare. — It sits first because built-in ventilation is a designed channel with a designed clearance, and it is routinely blocked after a kitchen refit.
- Second: Press the door firmly during a cycle and see whether the behaviour changes. — Next, and it needs no tool.
- Third: Wash the filter and vacuum the slot. — Only once the checks above are clean.

- Remove and rinse the condenser as well as the lint filter — On a condensing machine the condenser is a second filter stage, and it is the part owners most often do not know exists.

- STOP before opening the cabinet to reach a thermostat or the control — Live terminals in a lint-filled cabinet.

Safety
A built-in machine has to come out of its cabinet run before most work can begin, and the supply behind it is not always reachable — isolate it at the breaker first, not at the plug. Unplug the dryer or switch off its breaker before removing any panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Do not defeat a thermostat or a thermal fuse to keep a stalled cycle running: those parts trip because the machine is running hotter than designed, and lint is the fuel in that cabinet. Never leave a dryer running unattended overnight while you are diagnosing a cycle fault.
When this becomes a service call
Call a technician when a timed cycle also fails to dry with a proven clear duct, when the machine stops mid-cycle repeatedly, or when the cabinet is getting very hot while the load stays damp. Call promptly on the last of those: heat with no airflow is the dangerous combination.
