The answer, first
When an Ellipse unit will not start, split it: does the panel light? A dark machine points at the outlet, the breaker and the cord. A lit machine that will not run points at the door switch, a control lock, or a start circuit. On many builds an open thermal fuse kills the motor entirely, and that has a cause worth finding.
What owners actually observe
- The panel lights but nothing happens when start is pressed — The machine is declining rather than dead.
- The machine stopped working right after a very long, poor drying cycle — Strongly suggests a thermal device that opened on an overheated, restricted machine.
- A lock or child-lock symbol is lit — A setting rather than a fault, and it clears with a long press.
- The breaker or one side of it is off — Large dryers use a double breaker, and one side can open alone.
- NEAR MISS: the drum turns but there is no heat — That is a heating fault, and the machine has clearly started.
Causes, most likely first
- Door switch not making, or the door not closing square — Top of the list: the machine is designed to refuse with the door open, and the switch takes every close, so a worn plunger or a dropped door imitates a dead machine exactly. Most no-start complaints end here or at the breaker.
- No power, or half the supply missing — Second: a tripped breaker, a dead socket or a partly seated plug accounts for a large share of completely dead machines.
- Thermal fuse or protective device open — Less often, third: on many platforms an open thermal fuse stops the motor entirely, and it opened because the machine overheated, which nearly always means restricted airflow.
Check in this order
- Close the door firmly and listen for the switch click — A machine that starts under hand pressure has a switch or an alignment fault and nothing more.
- Check the breaker fully, and prove a standard outlet with a lamp — Reset a tripped breaker once.
- Ask whether drying had been getting slower before it died — A slow-drying spell followed by a dead machine is the classic blocked-duct sequence.

- Close the door firmly and listen for the switch — Then press start while holding light pressure on the door.

Read this before a panel comes off
Safety
If the machine died after a spell of slow drying, treat the duct as the cause and clear it before anybody refits a protective device.
