Write the code down, then try a full power-off reset and check for a control lock. Most codes point at water, drainage or the door rather than the electronics, so check those conditions before suspecting the board.

Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. The console carries mains terminals and the cabinet below holds water, so never run the machine with a panel open and never hold or wedge a door lock closed to test a program.
When to call
Call when a reset, the lock check and the water, drain and door checks have all been done and the code returns. Quote the code and describe when it appears - at fill, at drain, at spin - because that decides the parts. On a value-tier washer, get the board price before agreeing, since it can be a large share of the machine.
