The short answer
First find out whether the machine makes its own hot water or takes it from the building. If it is plumbed to a hot supply, check that tap and the building’s hot water before anything else. Otherwise the checks are the element, the thermal protection and the sensing.
What you observe
- Warm programs never warm the door glass — No heating is happening.
- Cold washing only at certain times — A shared hot supply that is slow or off.
- A hot tap behind the machine that is closed — The machine is drawing cold only.
- Cycles running longer than they used to — Possibly waiting for heat.
- Residue building up on laundry over weeks — Cold washing with normal dosing.
- Not this fault: a cold rinse at the end — Rinses are usually cold by design.

Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Turn off both supply taps before disturbing a hose, and treat a breaker that trips at the heating stage as a fault to be examined rather than reset. Do not attempt repairs on a machine in a shared laundry that you do not own.
When to call
Call the building or the landlord where the hot supply itself is the problem, or where a shared machine needs an element. Call an appliance technician when a cold-fill machine will not heat and the program is right. Mention the cycle count and the water hardness: on a heavily used machine in a hard-water area, scale is the expected finding.
