The short answer
Check the shut-off arm or switch, then the water supply, then whether the fill tube has frozen. In an unheated garage or basement, a frozen supply line is the leading cause, and it comes back each winter unless the line is insulated or re-routed.
What you notice
- No ice at all, machine otherwise fine — Supply, arm or valve.
- Small or hollow cubes — Low water flow.
- A block of ice in the mould — The fill tube froze and overflowed.
- Ice stopped when the weather turned cold — A frozen supply line.
- Ice tastes or smells wrong — Old ice or an unused supply line.
- Not this fault: no ice with the cabinet warming — Read the cooling page first.

- Look into the mould for a frozen block — It names the fill tube.

Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Keep a freezer at or below zero degrees Fahrenheit. Never thaw a frozen fill tube or supply line with an open flame or a heat gun: use warm water or a low warm-air setting. Turn off the water supply before disturbing any fitting.
When to call
Call when the arm is down, the supply is open and unfrozen, and no water reaches the mould, because the inlet valve and the module are inside the appliance. Call a plumber instead if the supply line itself is the problem or if a valve leaks. On an older standalone freezer, ask whether the ice maker part is still available before agreeing to a repair.
