There is usually no ice maker here
Integrated Diplomat cabinets are usually not plumbed, so there is no ice maker to fail. What owners report as an ice fault is normally frost building where it should not, or an ice box that has stopped freezing properly, and both point at the seal and the airflow rather than at any ice component.
What you are seeing
- Heavy frost building on the rear wall or in the ice box.
- The ice box no longer freezes its contents solid.
- Frost returns within days of defrosting.
- Ice building around the ice box door or flap.
- Frost is thicker at one side of the compartment than the other.
- Not this fault: A thin even layer of frost on the rear wall of a static cabinet is normal.
- Not this fault: Water at the bottom of the compartment is a drain fault - read the leak page.
Most likely causes, in Diplomat order
- Warm moist air entering past a seal or a badly closed door — Why ranked: First on this platform. On an integrated unit the inner door is easily left fractionally open by the furniture-door coupling, and frost follows immediately.
- Ice box flap or lid not closing — Why ranked: Second: a small compartment within a compartment loses its temperature quickly once its own door is not shut.
- Frequent or long door openings in a humid kitchen — Why ranked: Third. Every opening admits moisture that freezes on the coldest surface, and heavy use shows as frost rather than as a fault.
- Drain and channel iced over, so moisture cannot leave — Why ranked: Fourth. Once the channel is frozen, condensate stays in the compartment and adds to the frost instead of draining away.
- Thermostat set colder than needed — Why ranked: Last, which freezes the compartment contents as well as building frost, and is corrected on the dial.
What to check, in order
- Open the furniture door and check whether the appliance door is fully closed. — Because: On an integrated unit this is the most common route for warm moist air and it costs nothing to check.
- Check the ice box flap closes and latches. — Because: A small compartment loses its temperature very quickly with its own door ajar.
- Note whether frost is even or heavier on one side. — Because: Even frost is moisture load; heavier at one side points at where the air is coming in.
- Look at whether the drip channel and drain are iced. — Because: A frozen channel keeps moisture in the compartment and makes the frost self-sustaining.

Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Never chip frost off an ice box or a rear wall with a knife or a screwdriver - the cooling circuit runs behind those surfaces and a puncture ends the appliance. Let frost melt rather than forcing it. Never use a heat gun or boiling water inside the compartment. Never draw an integrated appliance out of its housing alone.
When this becomes a service call
Frost returns heavily within days despite a good seal and a clear drain. The ice box will not freeze at any thermostat setting. The drain cannot be cleared once the ice has melted. The compartment freezes its contents at a moderate setting.
