The causes and their order

- The isolating spur or breaker — Third most likely: A built-in machine loses power at a switch most owners forget exists, and a dark panel is the result rather than a symptom of failure.
- A door the control cannot confirm is latched — Fourth and the least likely here: The latch switch is a condition for everything, and a misaligned door or a rack item catching the front leaves it marginal. A cabinet that has been in several rooms has usually been dragged at least once, and the door is what goes out of true.
Working order
- Look for standing water in the sump when the code appears — Water present at the stop points straight at the drain path. It goes first because on a machine of this age the wearing parts are where the fault usually is, and this one is quick to confirm.
- Check the isolating valve under the sink and the inlet hose — A valve closed after other plumbing work is a very common cause of a coded stop.
- Check the spur switch in the cupboard or above the worktop, then the breaker — Both, in that order, before anything else is suspected.

- Bail the sump, clean the filter and check the drain hose loop and air gap — Then run a cancel-drain cycle to confirm the machine can empty itself.
