What you are most likely looking at
Blinking lights and codes are the machine talking. The useful work is translating what it is saying and then checking that system. That puts a control lock or a delay start at the top of the list here and a loose harness or connector at the bottom.
How this presents
- A code or a blinking light pattern on the panel — A named condition. Write it down exactly, including how many flashes.
- The machine runs far longer than the stated cycle time — Normal on many machines: they extend the cycle while waiting for heat.
- Lights come on at random with the door shut — A panel fault, and usually a water-ingress one.
- NEAR MISS — nothing at all on the panel — That is a supply question and belongs on the no-start page.
The ranking
- A control lock or a delay start — The two most common reasons a panel appears dead or a cycle appears not to run. Both are cleared from the panel. It leads here because the display is where this line announces its own faults, and reading it first saves dismantling something that was never wrong.
- A code reporting a real fault elsewhere — Fill, drain, heat and leak detection all raise codes. The code names the system to check, not the part to replace. Ranked next because the boards act on what the sensors report: a sensor reading wrongly produces behaviour that looks like a failed component somewhere else entirely.
- Moisture in the touch panel — Steam escaping past a door seal reaches the panel and produces phantom presses and dead keys. It is placed here because the checks above are quicker, not because this one is unlikely.
- A supply event — A surge or a brownout leaves a control in a state it cannot recover from without a power-down.
- A loose harness or connector — Heat cycling loosens connectors, and a partly seated one produces intermittent nonsense.
Check in this order, and why
- Write the code or the flash pattern down exactly — Number of flashes and their grouping is the message.
- Try the control-lock sequence — Usually a button held for several seconds; it explains most unresponsive panels.
- Cut power at the breaker for a few minutes — One clean reset separates a stuck state from a live fault.
- Look for steam tracking at the top of the door — A wet panel is caused by a seal, and replacing the panel alone will not last.
What an owner can safely do
- Clear the lock and cancel any delay start — Then select a short cycle and watch what the machine does next.
- Run a drain or cancel cycle and note the stage it stops at — Where it stops tells a technician more than the code does on its own.
- STOP before opening the door panel or the control housing — Both sit next to mains wiring inside the door.

Clearing a lock and power-cycling the machine are yours. A persistent code, a wet panel or a board is service work, and a code that names a leak should stop the machine being used.
