A door that does not seal costs a cabinet its temperature quietly, without any other symptom. That puts a gasket that has taken a set or lost its magnet at the top of the list here and something inside holding the door open at the bottom.
What the machine is doing
- Sweating on the outer cabinet between the doors — On many builds that is normal in humid weather and there is a heater behind that panel doing exactly what it should.
- Ice forming on the ceiling of the freezer near the door — Warm humid air entering at the top of the seal and freezing where it lands.
- NEAR MISS — water pooling inside the base of the cabinet — That is usually a blocked defrost drain rather than a door fault, and it belongs on the leak page.
Likely causes on this kind of machine
- A gasket that has taken a set or lost its magnet — The commonest cause by a distance. It leads on a built-in wine cabinet because the long glass door and its soft gasket stop touching at the top corner first, and the cabinet loses its band of temperature there.
- A gasket lifting out of its retaining channel — Cleaning and door slams work the edge of the gasket loose, and once it lifts, that section never touches again. A seal fault never announces itself — it just costs temperature all day — which is why it is checked early despite being unglamorous.
- Humidity the cabinet was never designed for — In a humid garage or an unconditioned room, condensation appears on a perfectly good seal. The fix is the room, not the door. Cellar cabinets are routinely installed in a dining room or a converted closet, and a cabinet asked to hold cellar temperature in a warm room runs continuously without ever getting there.
- Something inside holding the door open — A bottle in a door bin, a drawer not pushed home or a shelf out of its channel stops the door by a fraction, which is all it takes.
The diagnostic order
- Run a finger round the gasket for hard or flat sections — Age shows by feel before it shows by eye, and it tells you whether cleaning will help or not.
- Look at the gap at the top corner with the door shut — A door that has dropped is visible from a few steps back, and it is the check most owners skip.
- Check the interior light goes out when the door shuts — A light left on inside a closed cabinet is both a heat source and a proof of a switch fault.
Step by step, as far as it is safe to go
- Press the gasket back into its channel all the way round — Work from one corner to the next; a lifted section often refits by hand.
- Rearrange the door bins so nothing tall fouls the swing — Close the door slowly and watch what touches first.
- STOP before loosening hinge bolts to realign a loaded door — A heavy door on a slackened hinge falls, and it takes the frame with it.

Empty the door before touching a hinge, because a loaded door has enough weight to injure a hand and enough leverage to bend a frame. Kill the power before working near a switch, and remember that stored charge remains in the machine after the supply is gone.
When this stops being a home repair
Call when the gasket is split or has lost its magnetic grip, when the door needs hinge adjustment, or when the seal is proved good and the cabinet is still losing temperature. A cabinet sitting above 40 °F (4 °C) because of a door fault is a food-safety issue, not a cosmetic one.
