What this usually is
Door complaints arrive as frost, as condensation or as a cabinet that never quite gets cold. On a Chill by Hisense refrigerator all three trace back to the same three parts. That puts a gasket that has taken a set or lost its magnet at the top of the list here and a dropped or misaligned door at the bottom.
How this presents
- The door does not pull itself closed from a hand-width open — A healthy door swings itself shut over the last stretch.
- Condensation or frost around the door frame — Warm room air is reaching cold surfaces.
- NEAR MISS — ice building only on the freezer back wall — That is a defrost or airflow fault rather than a door one.
The causes, ordered
- A gasket that has taken a set or lost its magnet — The commonest cause by a distance. Ranked high because the door is the part built to the lower cost on a sub-line cabinet, so it deserves the check the electronics do not.
- A gasket lifting out of its retaining channel — Cleaning and door slams work the edge of the gasket loose, and once it lifts, that section never touches again. A seal fault never announces itself — it just costs temperature all day — which is why it is checked early despite being unglamorous.
- Humidity the cabinet was never designed for — In a humid garage or an unconditioned room, condensation appears on a perfectly good seal. The fix is the room, not the door. The surroundings are part of the machine: rate it against warmer air and the same hardware behaves like a failing unit.
- A dropped or misaligned door — Heavy doors, loaded bins and years of use let the door settle.
The diagnostic order
- Run a finger round the gasket for hard or flat sections — Age shows by feel before it shows by eye, and it tells you whether cleaning will help or not.
- Look at the gap at the top corner with the door shut — A door that has dropped is visible from a few steps back, and it is the check most owners skip.
- Check the interior light goes out when the door shuts — A light left on inside a closed cabinet is both a heat source and a proof of a switch fault.
What an owner can safely do
- Warm a flattened gasket section and work it back out — A warm cloth held against a set section for a while restores some of the shape.

- Level the cabinet so the door closes itself — Adjust the front feet until the unit does not rock and the door swings shut from a hand-width open.
Tools: adjustable spanner, spirit level
- STOP before loosening hinge bolts to realign a loaded door — A heavy door on a slackened hinge falls, and it takes the frame with it.

Safety
Doors on full-size cabinets are heavier than they look, and a loaded door on a slackened hinge will drop. Unplug the unit before any hinge or switch work — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off — and never tape or wedge a door switch to keep the light off.
