The short answer
A Beko BFTF refrigerator that leaks usually does it into the fresh-food compartment rather than onto the floor, and that is a direct consequence of the layout. The defrost drain is at the top, behind the freezer, and the meltwater has to travel down a tube through the cabinet - so when the route blocks, the water arrives on a shelf inside the fridge below.
What you observe
- Water running down the back wall of the fresh-food compartment — The classic top-freezer presentation: a blocked drain at the top emptying into the fridge.
- Water pooling on the top shelf of the fridge — The same blockage, escaping at the first opening it finds.
- Ice building in the trough behind the freezer rear panel — The drain has frozen rather than clogged.
- Water on the floor behind the cabinet — The tube at its lower end, the evaporation tray, or on an IM code the supply line.
- NEAR MISS - water everywhere and the cabinet is warm — A cabinet that has stopped cooling is thawing; the cooling page comes first.
Causes, most likely first on this family
- Blocked or frozen drain behind the freezer rear panel — First on this layout, and the reason the water appears one compartment below where the fault is.
- Freezer door not sealing along its length — Second, and the reason there is more meltwater than the route was built to carry.
- Internal drain tube blocked partway down — Third, and specific to a top-freezer: the tube has a long run through the cabinet to block in.

Check in this order, and why
- Decide whether the water is inside the fridge or behind the cabinet — First, because inside is the internal drain and behind is the tray, the tube end or a supply line.
- Look at the trough behind the freezer rear panel — Second. Ice or standing water there names the cause, and on this layout it is at eye level.
- Clear the drain with warm water poured slowly — Third, with the cabinet unplugged, repeating rather than probing.
- On an IM code, trace the supply line to its fitting — Fourth, because a weeping fitting puts water in the same place as a displaced tray.

Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Shut off the water supply before touching any ice-maker connection. Mop before working. Never clear a frozen drain with a metal probe, because the evaporator tubing sits immediately behind that panel.

When to call a technician
Call when the drain clears and blocks again within weeks, because the blockage is then partway down the internal tube where you cannot reach it. Call also if the tray is cracked or a supply fitting weeps where you cannot isolate it.
