The short answer
The Beko BFTF family is a top-freezer, and that puts the noisy half of the appliance at the top of the cabinet rather than at the bottom. The evaporator and its fan sit behind the freezer rear panel at head height, so a fan noise on this platform is loud, obvious and confirmed in one move: open the freezer and it stops.
What you observe
- A whir or tick that stops the instant the freezer door opens — The evaporator fan, cut by the door switch, usually striking frost.
- A periodic clatter and running water from the top of the cabinet — Only on the IM codes: an ice harvest and refill doing its job.
- A drone that seems to come from the floor — The compressor at the base resonating through the carcass - levelling or contact.
- A rattle from behind the cabinet — Tubing or a clip resting against the carcass.
- NEAR MISS - noise with the lower compartment warming — A symptom of an airflow fault; the cooling page comes first.
Causes, most likely first on this family
- Evaporator fan striking frost — First on a top-freezer, because the fan sits at head height behind the upper rear panel where any frost build is directly in its path and directly in earshot.
- Ice-maker fill and harvest noise — Second on the IM codes, normal operation, and the noise owners most often mistake for a failure.
- Cabinet rocking on unevenly loaded feet — Third. A top-freezer carries its weight high, so an unloaded foot shows up readily.
- Contact at the back of the cabinet — Fourth, and quick to find by hand while the compressor runs.
- Compressor mounts hardened with age — Last, and the only cause needing the cabinet opened.
Check in this order, and why
- Open the freezer door while the noise is happening — First and decisive: the door switch cuts the fan, and on this layout the fan is the leading cause.
- Check your code for the IM suffix — Second. A periodic water noise on a plain code has to be something else.
- Press each top corner of the cabinet in turn — Third. A cabinet that clicks or settles is standing on three feet.
- Feel behind the cabinet while it runs — Fourth. Ease any tube or clip resting on the carcass clear.
Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Never defeat the freezer door switch to watch the fan run - it is an interlock, the blade is unguarded, and on a top-freezer it is at head height. Empty the cabinet before tilting it to reach a foot.

When to call a technician
Call when the fan is clear of frost, the cabinet is level and nothing at the back is touching, because mounts and fan motors need the machine opened. Call immediately if a noise comes with a burning smell.
