The short answer
An ice complaint on a Beko BFTF refrigerator starts at the model code: the codes carrying IM have an ice maker in the top freezer and take a water supply, and the plain codes have neither. A top-freezer ice maker sits at the top of the cabinet, which changes the usual fault - the fill tube is short and the mould is easy to reach, but the whole assembly is above the fresh-food compartment.
What you observe
- A mound of ice beneath the ice maker fill point — The fill tube has frozen and each fill is overflowing before it reaches the mould.
- Hollow or undersized cubes — Water arriving too slowly - supply pressure, a partly closed shut-off, or a tired fill valve.
- No ice with the arm or paddle down — Nothing arriving, or a harvest mechanism that has stopped turning.
- A sheet of frost behind the freezer rear panel — Frost rather than ice-maker trouble, and the leading complaint on plain codes.
- NEAR MISS - cubes fused into a solid block — A temperature problem, covered on the cooling page.
Causes, most likely first on this family
- Frozen fill tube — First on any IM build here, and unusually easy to confirm because the assembly is at head height.
- Slow or restricted water supply — Second, and the reason the tube froze at all.
- Freezer door not sealing — Third, and first in practice on a plain code: it is where the frost comes from.
- Failed fill valve or ice-maker module — Fourth, and both need the upper compartment emptied and a panel off.
- Stalled defrost cycle — Last, and the reason frost returns after every clearance - and the reason the fridge below then warms.
Check in this order, and why
- Read your code for the IM suffix — First, because it decides whether an ice maker exists to fail.
- Look under the fill point for a mound of ice — Second, on an IM build. On a top-freezer this is visible without emptying the compartment.
- Check the supply shut-off is fully open — Third. A partly closed valve gives hollow cubes first and a frozen tube later.
- Check the freezer door seals along its length — Fourth, and first in practice on a plain code.
Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Shut the water supply off before disturbing a fill line. Never thaw a fill tube with a heat gun or an open flame, and never chip ice off an evaporator or a mould with a metal tool.

When to call a technician
Call when a thawed fill tube freezes again, because the cause is then supply pressure or a fill valve. Call also for a harvest mechanism that will not turn, and on a plain code when frost returns within weeks of a full manual defrost.
