Start here, for WCV models
Leaks on these cabinets sort cleanly: water inside on the floor of the fresh-food section is a blocked defrost drain, water at the back is the pan or the tubing, and water at the front by the door is usually the seal or the ice-maker line. On an Avanti WCV refrigerator start by finding WHERE, because the where names the fault.
Signs you can observe
- Water inside, under the crisper drawers — On this family, water inside the cabinet is the earliest form of this fault and the easiest to fix.
- Damp along the door edge with a dry floor — Across the WCV line, condensation on a cool surface rather than a leak, and on a humid day it means nothing.
- Water on the floor at the back of the machine — On the WCV models listed below, the evaporating pan has overflowed, cracked, or the drain tube has come out of it.
- Ice building up under the bottom drawer or on the freezer floor — In the WCV family, melt water freezing where it stands is a drain that blocks and then freezes shut.
- Droplets on the inside of the rear wall — On WCV models in particular, normal on a humid day in a cabinet that is opened often; a problem only when it runs rather than beads.
- NEAR MISS — water only when the ice maker cycles — That is the fill line or the mould, and the ice-production page covers it in the right order.
Ranked causes on the WCV line
- A blocked defrost drain — It leads because every cabinet makes defrost water daily, so the drain is the one part of the water path that is always working.
- A drain that freezes shut because the defrost system is failing — It ranks below the simple blockage because it is the same symptom with a harder cause, and it needs a technician. That ranking holds across the WCV line.
- A drain pan that has overflowed or shifted — The pan under the cabinet is meant to evaporate defrost melt, and a pan knocked out of position spills instead.
- A perished or disconnected drain tube — Last of the common causes: the tube hardens with age, cracks at the bend, or falls out of the pan when the machine is pushed back. It is ranked the same way on every WCV model.
The order to work in
- Find the highest point the water reaches — Within the WCV family, dry everything, put kitchen paper at likely points and come back: the first sheet to wet tells you where to look.
- Look underneath at the evaporating pan — On WCV models, pull the machine forward and use a torch: a pan out of position explains every drop on the floor.
- Run the paper test round the door seal — A section that slides free is letting humid air in, and that water condenses at the front edge.
- Look at the drain pan under the cabinet — With the plinth off and the unit isolated, check the pan is seated and not overflowing.

Safety
Isolate the refrigerator at the plug or the breaker and close any water supply before touching a fitting; a capacitor can stay charged after the power is off. Clear a drain with warm water and time, never with a metal tool — the liner is thin and a puncture is not repairable. Leave every switch and sensor as fitted.

When to call a technician
Owner territory is the channel, the pan, the seal, the levelling and the visible connections. Beyond that, call. Call the same day if water is anywhere near a socket or the wiring, because at that point this is an electrical hazard rather than a plumbing one.
