The WCR answer in short
Leaks on these cabinets sort cleanly: water inside on the floor of the fresh-food section is a blocked defrost drain, water at the back is the pan or the tubing, and water at the front by the door is usually the seal or the ice-maker line. On an Avanti WCR refrigerator start by finding WHERE, because the where names the fault.
Signs you can observe
- Water on the floor at the back of the machine — On WCR models in particular, back-of-cabinet water means the path got that far and then failed — pan, tube or a tilted machine.
- Damp along the door edge with a dry floor — Looking at WCR models specifically, a dry floor and a damp frame is normal; treat it as a leak only if it puddles.
- Ice building up under the bottom drawer or on the freezer floor — On every WCR model in the table, melt water freezing where it stands is a drain that blocks and then freezes shut.
- Droplets on the inside of the rear wall — In the WCR family, sweating on the liner is usually humidity and door openings, not a fault.
- Water at the front, just inside the door — On this family, a gasket passing humid air condenses it right there, and it runs down the liner.
- NEAR MISS — water AND a warm cabinet — Then the leak is a symptom of a defrost or airflow fault. Read the cooling-failure page for your model line first.
What goes wrong here, most frequent first
- A blocked defrost drain — It leads because every cabinet makes defrost water daily, so the drain is the one part of the water path that is always working.
- An overflowing, cracked or displaced evaporating pan — It sits here because back-of-machine water almost always means the water got this far and then missed the pan. That holds for every WCR model listed here.
- A spill inside the cabinet that was never the appliance at all — Ranked here because it costs nothing to rule out and because it explains water that appears once and never again.
- A perished or disconnected drain tube — It comes here because you have to get behind and under the machine to see it, which is past most owners. On WCR models it earns that place.
Where to start, and what follows
- Find the highest point the water reaches — Where WCR models are concerned, dry everything, put kitchen paper at likely points and come back: the first sheet to wet tells you where to look.
- Look underneath at the evaporating pan — For WCR models, it should be dry or damp, sitting square, with the drain tube pointing into it.
- Check the cabinet is level, front to back especially — A spirit level on the top and a spanner on the feet is the whole job.
- Look at the drain pan under the cabinet — With the plinth off and the unit isolated, check the pan is seated and not overflowing.

Water and electricity in the same cabinet is the hazard here, so unplug the refrigerator or switch off its breaker before you put a hand anywhere wet — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Dry the floor before you stand on it, and if water has reached a control board or a light fitting, stop and call rather than drying it out and hoping.

When to hand it over
Hand it over once the drain flows, the pan is right, the machine is level and the seal passes the paper test, and water still appears. At that point you are looking at tubing inside the cabinet wall or at the defrost circuit, neither of which is reachable without a teardown. Switch the machine off at the wall if the leak is fast.
