What you notice first

When to hand it over
Hand it over when a full defrost plus a clean condenser does not restore cold within a day, when the fan does not run with the door switch held in, or when the compressor is hot and silent. Any of those three is past the owner line. A burning smell or oil at the compressor is not a "watch it" situation — switch it off and call.
