The WCR answer in short
An ice maker on an Avanti WCR refrigerator that has stopped producing is a water-supply problem far more often than a mechanism problem. The valve, the line and the freezing temperature all have to be right before the mould can cycle, and any one of the three will leave you with an empty bin and a machine that otherwise looks healthy.
What the owner sees
- You can hear the fill valve buzz but no water comes — On WCR models, a buzzing valve with a dry mould is a supply fault almost every time.
- The ice tastes of the freezer — In the WCR family, empty the bin and let it make fresh: taste is not a mechanical fault.
- Production is slow rather than absent — Where WCR models are concerned, a compartment slightly too warm slows every cycle without stopping any of them.
- Cubes fuse into one lump in the bin — On WCR models in particular, slow harvesting, a warm spell, or a door left ajar long enough to start a thaw.

What actually fails on WCR models, in order
- A closed, kinked or frozen water supply — First, because it is the most common and the cheapest: a saddle valve nobody opened fully, or a fill line pinched behind the cabinet.
- The bin-full arm or sensor stuck in the full position — This one is high value for how cheap it is: look before you diagnose anything else. It keeps that place on the WCR line.
- A shut-off arm or sensor held up by the ice already in the bin — The maker stops when it believes the bin is full, and a lump of fused ice holds the arm exactly where "full" is.
- A failed ice-maker module or its wiring — It comes last because everything above it imitates it perfectly and costs less to rule out. It sits there for WCR models too.
What to look at first, second, third
- Look at the bin-full arm or sensor first — Within the WCR family, anything resting against it reads as a full bin and stops production dead, at zero cost to check.
- Look into the mould: wet or dry — On the WCR models listed below, this single observation splits the page into two halves, so make it early.
- Empty the bin completely and let it refill — Looking at WCR models specifically, it resets the shut-off arm and tells you whether the maker works at all.
- Listen for the fill buzz after a harvest — A short buzz means water is being asked for; silence means the maker is not calling for it.
Before you take any panel off
Safety
Isolate the refrigerator at the plug or the breaker before any access; a capacitor can stay charged after the power is off. Close the water supply before touching a fill line, and thaw ice with warm water or time rather than a screwdriver. Leave every switch and sensor exactly as the maker fitted it.

When to hand it over
Call once the bin has been emptied, the arm is free, the supply valve is open, the line is not kinked and a thermometer says the compartment holds temperature — and there is still no ice. What is left is the fill valve, the mould heater or the maker module, and all three sit behind a panel with mains in it.
