Asko Dryer: Will Not Drain
A condenser or heat-pump dryer collects the water it removes from your clothes, and that water has to go somewhere — into a removable tank, or out through a small pump and hose to a drain. Asko is a Scandinavian premium brand: heavier build, stainless interiors, machines designed for long life and quiet running. Emptying the tank, clearing the condenser and checking the hose are owner work. Replacing a pump or a level switch is not.
What the owner actually observes
- The machine stops partway and reports the water container full when it is not.
- Water is standing in the base of the machine or under the condenser.
- The tank fills unusually fast, or does not fill at all.
- The machine is plumbed to a drain and water is backing up rather than going away.
- The drying cycle is much slower and the machine feels hot.

- Note: Because these machines are built heavier and quieter than average, the order below puts consumables, water quality and maintenance first, and structural or mechanical failure last: on a machine built this way, the odds move away from the metal and toward what passes through it.
Check in this order
- The condenser or heat-exchanger fins, removing the unit where the design allows and rinsing until water runs clear — Order: first — Because: it is the most common cause, it is owner-serviceable on most machines, and it also explains slow drying at the same time
- That the tank is pushed fully home until it seats, and that nothing is obstructing its channel — Order: second — Because: it is free, it takes seconds, and it is the most common version of the false full-tank complaint
Owner-safe checks
- Look at what the machine has been consuming rather than what it is made of. Check filters, seals and screens for the residue of hard water and detergent, and check that the maintenance the machine expects has actually been done — on a heavily built machine, that is where the fault usually is. — Step: first — Tools: a torch and a phone camera — Time estimate: a few minutes

- If the machine is plumbed to a drain, pull it forward and check the hose for kinks, confirm it is not pushed deep into a standpipe, and check that its high point is not above what the manual allows. — Step: fifth — Tools: a torch — Time estimate: under a quarter of an hour
- Clear every filter and screen the machine has, and check whether the water it runs in is hard: scale and detergent residue collect on the surfaces that matter most and produce symptoms that mimic component failure. When to call a technician
The line is any work at the pump, the sump or the base of the machine. Call if the tank still reports full after being emptied, reseated and the condenser cleaned. Call if water is standing in the base of the machine. Call if the pump can be heard running but no water moves, which points at a blockage you cannot reach. Call if the machine is plumbed and the drain backs up even with the hose clear.
