Asko Dishwasher: Door, Latch or Seal Fault
A dishwasher door does three separate jobs — it seals a tub of hot water, it latches so the machine will run, and on a built-in machine it carries the weight of a decorative panel on sprung hinges. Asko is a Scandinavian premium brand: heavier build, stainless interiors, machines designed for long life and quiet running. Cleaning the seal, checking the latch alignment and adjusting the door springs are owner work. Replacing a seal or a hinge is not.
What the owner actually observes
- Water runs out at the front during the cycle.
- The door will not latch, or has to be pushed hard to catch.
- The door falls open rather than staying where it is put.
- The door is heavy to lift, or slams shut on its own.
- The seal is hard, flattened or displaced from its channel.

- That the machine is level in both directions and the door meets the tub evenly all the way round — Order: second — Because: it is free, and on a built-in machine it is the cause behind most latch and seal complaints that developed gradually
- Whether the door stays where it is put at half open, or falls and slams — Order: third — Because: a door that will not hold position is a spring or cable question, not a latch one
Owner-safe checks
- Look at what the machine has been consuming rather than what it is made of. Check filters, seals and screens for the residue of hard water and detergent, and check that the maintenance the machine expects has actually been done — on a heavily built machine, that is where the fault usually is. — Step: first — Tools: a torch and a phone camera — Time estimate: a few minutes

When to call a technician
The line is the seal, the springs and the hinges. Call if the seal is hardened or torn, since it must be fitted evenly into its channel to seal at all. Call if the door falls open or slams, which points at springs or cables under tension. Call if the door has dropped because a hinge is worn. Call if the machine only latches when the door is pushed very hard.
